You finally have a good body goal, been working out, eating healthy and still the scales aren’t smiling… If you’re still battling the scale after adopting these healthier habits, you might consider looking at your amount of fruit intake.

One of the things you must have heard, and which is in fact true, is that fruit is an effective fast weight loss diet inclusion, actually fruits, when eaten in the right manner, are quite healthy and help to maintain normal weight, but one of the problems with a diet made of fruit is that people forget that fruit, like all food, contains calories, and the calories in fruit can make you just as overweight as those in chocolate or any other food for that matter. Fresh fruit is a healthy diet choice and loaded with vitamins and antioxidants; however fruits still contain calories and carbohydrates. These are two things that can stop your weight loss progress in its tracks if left unchecked.

Although fruit is a healthier alternative to many desserts and junk foods, but if fruit is a chief item at every meal and snack, you may simply be eating too many carbohydrates to allow your body to lose weight. Momentarily, any time we eat carbohydrates our blood sugar goes up. That triggers our body to release insulin to lower the blood sugar. How does it do that? By converting it to fat for storage! Moreover, fruit is high in the simple sugar fructose, which is the main reason why many people trying to lose weight remove it from their diet. Unlike glucose, the most common simple sugar that is sent to your muscles, brain, and other organs for them to use as energy, fructose is only processed by your liver. Why is that bad? If your liver already has sufficient energy, there is a high probability that your liver will repackage the excess fructose as fat, saving it for use at a later time. I know it is hard to believe, but fruits can make you fat. When we overload the body’s fuel supply with more glucose and fructose than we need, the body tends to store the extra as fat. Since the fructose requires a long process in the liver to convert it into energy, the body generally uses up all the available glucose before it chooses to burn the fructose.

If you eat more calories than you burn or use up, you will gain weight no matter where the calories come eating fruits, although healthy,  can make you gain even more weight than lose weight in the sense that, if you eat too much of it (or too much of anything) you will gain weight. A minimum of one and maximum of two fruits should be eaten per day, if you cannot stay without fruits. If you eat higher calorie fruits like bananas you will be more likely to put on weight than if you eat lower calorie fruits like strawberries. We’re quick to blame bread and sweets for our weight, but when you realize that a banana packs the same number of carbs as 2 slices of bread and more than some candy bars, you might have a different perspective.
