A bride found weight loss inspiration not long after her wedding day, and her before and after photos are nothing short of amazing!

Joanne Dicken of West Bromwich, England, donned a size 20 wedding dress to her August 2014 nuptials. The blushing bride weighed 219lbs on her wedding day, but not long after becoming a newlywed, she realized she needed to make a change. Now, in a candid interview with The Knot, the bride is sharing her incredible weight loss story.

“I started to feel ill from carrying so much weight,” Dicken tells us, explaining that she “would be awake during the night crying with a stomach ache.” She has an under-active thyroid, causing “the weight [to come] on really easily.”

Although Dicken now works on the sales floor at Ikea, she previously ran an English pub with her husband, making it difficult to make healthy choices.

When the couple sold the pub in late 2014, she decided to lose the weight. She replaced nightly takeout with healthier alternatives, and she opted for a no-gimmicks approach to weight loss. “I used an app called My Fitness Pal to track my calories,” she explains, “and installed a pedometer onto my phone.” Along with healthful food choices, Dicken began to live a more active life as well.

“I have been walking a lot,” she acknowledges, telling The Knot she is sure to get in 10,000 steps a day, at least five times per week. And although the lifestyle change was initially difficult, it didn’t take the new bride long to settle into a healthier way of life.

“I found it hard limiting [my intake] at first,” Dicken shares. “Weighing food and looking at the size of the portions, knowing I wasn’t going to feel full from it. But it didn’t take long for that to change!”

“The [weight] loss every week was what kept me motivated,” she goes on, and it seems Dicken had plenty of support. “The more people commented, the more addictive it got to lose it,” she acknowledges. And what else kept the newlywed motivated?

“I’ve had a lot of people ask me to [make] diet plans [for them],” Dicken tells The Knot, “but the biggest thing that helped me was allowing myself a [cheat] day once a week if I’d lost.” She explains that easing up on her diet once a week “stopped the boredom of dieting constantly and also gave me something to focus on and look forward to.”

After shedding an astounding 98lbs, Dicken now has a new lease on life. Her grandmother offered to altar her size 20 wedding gown to fit her granddaughter’s new, size 10 figure. “Stepping back into my dress was my nan’s idea,” she shares. “[She] and my mom had asked me about losing weight before I got married, but I just wasn’t bothered about it then, so she really wanted to see me in it slim.”

So, what does the slimmed down Dicken look like after an inspirational weight loss, which took her to the svelte 121lb active woman she is today? Simply gorgeous!

Although she would love to renew her vows with her husband, who she has been with for eight years, we may not see the second set of wedding photos for a little while yet. “My husband thinks it’s too soon,” she tells The Knot. “He wants to wait until we’ve been married 10 years!”

Wishing you many happy, healthy years to come, Joanne. You are an inspiration!
